Goalie Johan Hedberg made his 12th straight start for the Devils on Jacques Caron Night as they hosted the Montreal Canadiens at Prudential Center Mattias Ekholm Jersey.
Finnish rookie Harri Pesonen made his NHL debut and fellow rookie Stefan Matteau returned to the lineup. Center Andrei Loktionov was sidelined with an unspecified injury and Krys Barch was a healthy scratch Kevin Fiala Jersey.
Defenseman Mark Fayne was also a scratch.
Carey Price was in goal for the Canadiens.

Before the game, former goalie coach Jacques Caron was honored. He received a wrist watch from the players and a vacation in Italy from owner Jeff Vanderbeek.
Martin Brodeur received loud cheers as he watched from a Pru Center suite and was shown on the video screen. Caron called Brodeur "the greatest goaltender in the world. "
Caron thanks Jacques Lemaire and "my great friend" Lou Lamoriello.
He said: "I hope the Devils, with this great coaching staff, will bring a fourth Stanley Cup to New Jersey soon. "
Clarkson took a chop at Canadiens captain Brian Gionta at 6: 22 Austin Watson Jersey. Clarkson was immediately surrounded by Habs players as Stephen Gionta looked on nearby P.K Subban Jersey.
The Canadiens took a 2-1 lead at 6: 49 when Hedberg went behind his net and passed the puck to Zidlicky. However, Zidlicky's attempt to clear the zone went to Montreal defenseman Jarred Tinordi, whose one-timer was tipped in by Plekanec. The tip eluded Hedberg on his stick side.
